Today I head out on my FOURTH ANNUAL LADIES ADVENTURE WEEK(end)! Sometimes a girl just needs to get away, wear tall socks, forget the makeup bag at home and drink beer with an old friend.
I look forward to this girls-only hiking trip all year; however, this time around I was more than tempted to skip out. A new job, wedding planning, one week out from closing on our house, and limited financial funds, due to the latter two excuses, were all hanging over my head as I thought about leaving Evan for a week-long, me-only trip.
It was amidst all my worrying that I realized how badly I needed this tradition, this “me time.” Evan and I are about to embark on a lifetime of togetherness. Along the way we are going to be required to make sacrifices, say no to fun outings, experience FOMO every once in a while. It will be equally important, however, to find ways to nourish ourselves as individuals in order to strengthen our foundation as a couple.
This trip is a representation of my independence and adventurous spirit that Evan loves – he needs me to maintain those parts of myself a lot more than he needs me pouting at home, pretending he'll starve without me, and saving a few dollars.
So, I compromised! We chose a destination that was driving distance and shortened the trip to 3 days. Neither Laura nor I have been to Ashville, NC , so it was the perfect fit. I can’t wait to share all the best trails, breweries and eateries Ashville has to offer! Stay tuned…
