Seven weeks into the adventure know as Home Ownership and Evan and I still feel like strangers in a foreign land. We can't get the AC right at night, we don't have the proper coverings on the windows, and we haven't had internet or cable since we moved in. Our half-started, not-started and shouldn't-have-started projects are growing and most nights I walk aimlessly around the house thinking about what needs to be done, but unable to actually accomplish anything due to lack of tools, funds and energy.
I am pretty sure Evan and I broke every "How to Buy Your First Home" rule, but I am equally sure that we couldn't be happier with how it turned out.
We were only casually looking at homes on Saint Simons Island, knowing we probably wanted to wait until after the wedding, so short of stalking Zillow we didn't take many efforts to look into the market. But like the start of most good love stories, it happened when we were least expecting.
Today I head out on my FOURTH ANNUAL LADIES ADVENTURE WEEK(end)! Sometimes a girl just needs to get away, wear tall socks, forget the makeup bag at home and drink beer with an old friend.
I look forward to this girls-only hiking trip all year; however, this time around I was more than tempted to skip out. A new job, wedding planning, one week out from closing on our house, and limited financial funds, due to the latter two excuses, were all hanging over my head as I thought about leaving Evan for a week-long, me-only trip.
Wedding planning is a great game of hurry up and wait - a giant game of Tetris where each event must delicately be completed in a particular order to allow the following sequence to occur, and there isn't a second to lose!
Save The Dates are a crucial part of this puzzle. You can't even think about them until the wedding date and venue are a done-deal, but you can't wait too long to alert your guests - especially for an out-of-town wedding on a holiday weekend, like ours. Amid the date-choosing and location-scouting, you must also find time for engagement photos.
!! Spoiler alert - all our engagement photos are posted in this blog!!
Because our wedding website has a tab labeled "Our Story" that sits completely blank, I'll share a Cliffs Note version of our relationship here.
"He was a boy. She was a girl. Can I make it any more obvious?"
While my middle school perception of relationships (thanks to Avril Lavigne) was quite representative of most my dating career, things with Evan were different from the start. We officially met at mutual friends wedding shower (thanks, Abbey and Scott).*
*Evan claims he knew who I was in college and even drove me home one time, but we will never know for sure.
